Gods among us-part XVIII

EN: Nora was thinking Amy’s words We are running out of time. He needs to remember. I have to make him remember she said to herself.
She was about to take another sip of her coffee when her phone rung. She saw Jennifer's name on the screen. She smiled and answered:
“Good morning Jennifer”
“Good morning Nora” Jennifer said back. “How are you?”
“I am good” Nora answered and before having the chance of asking her as well she heard Pauline yelling:
“Just good??? You must be joking. I would be living in a dream if I had danced with Mark White”
Nora laughed
“Good morning to you too Pauline” she said.
“Yes yes good morning” Pauline said.
“As you see, you have some serious explanation to do” Jennifer said.
“And for this reason we are coming to your place” Pauline completed.
“I can only say that I am expecting you” Nora said smiling.
“Great” Jennifer said. “Will be there in 10 minutes.”
Nora hung up the phone, looked outside of her window and smiled. We spoke, she thought. He asked me to dance, he told me that I am beautiful.
She grabbed her phone and saw that Amy wrote back. Mary asked for more details but she didn’t had time. She texted back: "We talked a bit and danced. He still has no recollection of his past lives. Cannot speak now, will give you a call once I am free."
She put her phone to the side, stood up and went to prepare the coffee. 10 minutes later her door bell rung.
She opened the door, and saw a sleepy Jennifer and a very energetic Pauline.
“Good mooooorning” said Pauline with a singing  voice.
“Oh my god, is she always like that?” Nora asked Jennifer whilst hugging Pauline.
Jennifer yawned.
“Yes she is”, she answered
Nora laughed.
“Ok, come in.”
Both followed Nora.
“Oh breakfast” Pauline said clapping her hands and sat in the table.
Jennifer looked at Nora, and shaped the word sorry with her lips. Nora smiled. No worries she replied.
They all sat and started eating.
“OK, tell us everything” Pauline said whilst chewing a slice of bread with butter and orange jam on it. “Oh my god this jam is good.”
“Have nothing to say” Nora said smiling.
Both stopped eating and looked at Nora with disbelief.
“Please, Pauline said. Of course you have something to say. You caught Mark's White attention, that's huge.”
Nora smiled.
“I thought he is a womanizer, so every woman gets his attention.”
“Well, he likes flirting that's for sure. But he asked you to dance. And his girlfriend was there.”
“He has a girlfriend?” Nora asked surprised
“Oh, you didn’t know?” Jennifer said and took another bite of her scone.
“No, I had no clue”.
“Yes, he is with Anna Simons. He was dancing with her before you”
“Oh, I don't remember her.”
“She is really beautiful and nice too. I spoke with her a few times.”
“I see” Nora said looking on the floor.
“Hey, Jennifer said and touched Nora’s hand, are you ok?”
“Yes, is just that...”
“You didn't expect him to have a girlfriend, am I right? And now, you feel sad”, Jennifer interrupted her.
Nora sighed. You guys have no idea, she thought.
“Well, yes, I mean, obviously I like him, and I don’t know but yesterday there was something between us.”
“I know” Pauline said.
Nora looked at her suspicious.
“What you mean you know?”
“I mean that I saw you. Everyone did. Everyone's eyes were on you. I bet even Anna saw you. That's why once you left she went to him and hugged him.”
Nora felt a pinch on her heart. She stayed quite.
“So, will you tell us what you guys discussed?”
“Nothing special. He introduced himself, told me that I am beautiful...”
The coffee came out Pauline's mouth.
“Oh, but nothing happened” said by changing her voice pretending to be Nora. “Are you kidding me?”
Nora smiled.
“Careful with the coffee, she said. And he just gave me a compliment. Like you said he has a girlfriend.”
Pauline and Jennifer looked at each other.
“I guess you are right” Jennifer said.
“The fact is that you danced with him and he gave you a compliment. Be happy” Pauline said and looked at Nora with a dreamy look.
Jennifer stood up.
“OK ladies, I would love to stay, but I have to go at my parents’ house.”
“Can you please give me a ride too? My apartment is on your way.” Pauline asked.
“Of course” Jennifer said. “Bye Nora, thanks for having us over. See you on Monday in the office.”
Nora smiled.
“Bye you two, drive safely” she said and closed the door.

She went in the kitchen and took her phone. 10 new messages. She smiled. Oh you guys, she thought, I will tell you everything now.

GR: Η Νόρα σκεφτόταν τα λόγια της Έιμι.  Δεν έχουμε χρόνο. Πρέπει να θυμηθεί. Πρέπει να τον κάνω να θυμηθεί είπε στον εαυτό της. 

Πήγε  να πιει καφέ όταν χτύπησε το κινητό της. Είδε το όνομα της Τζένιφερ στην οθόνη. Χαμογέλασε κι απάντησε:

"Καλημέρα Τζένιφερ." 

"Καλημέρα Νόρα. Τί κάνεις;"

"Καλά." Είπε η Νόρα και πριν προλάβει να πει οτιδήποτε άλλο άκουσε την Πολίν να φωνάζει:

"Απλά καλά; Θα αστειεύεσαι. Θα ζούσα σε όνειρο αν είχα χορέψει με τον Μαρκ Γουάιτ"

Η Νόρα γέλασε.

"Καλημέρα  και σε σένα Πολίν" είπε.

"Ναι ναικαλημέραα" είπε και η Πολίν.

"Όπως βλέπεις, έχεις να εξηγήσεις πολλά" είπε η Τζένιφερ. 

"Κι αυτός είναι ο λόγος που ερχόμαστε από σένα." Συμπλήρωσε η Πολίν.

"Το μόνο που μπορώ να πω είναι ότι σας περιμένω." Είπε η Νόρα χαμογελώντας.

"Τέλεια" είπε η Τζένιφερ. "Θα είμαστε εκεί σε 10 λεπτά."

Η Νόρα έκλεισε το τηλέφωνο,  κοίταξε έξω από το παράθυρο και χαμογέλασε. Μιλήσαμε σκέφτηκε. Μου ζήτησε να χορέψουμε. Μου είπε ότι είμαι όμορφη.

Άρπαξε το τηλέφωνο και είδε ότι η Έιμι της απάντησε. Η Μαίρη ήθελε να μάθει παραπάνω λεπτομέρειες αλλά δεν είχε χρόνο. Απάντησε:"Μιλήσαμε λίγο και χορέψαμε. Δεν έχει θυμηθεί ακόμα. Δεν μπορώ να μιλήσω τώρα. Θα σας τηλεφωνήσω μόλις μπορέσω."

Έβαλε το κινητό στην άκρη, σηκώθηκε και έβαλε τον καφέ να γίνεται. 10 λεπτά αργότερα χτύπησε το κουδούνι της.

Άνοιξε την πόρτα και είδε την νωχελική Τζένιφερ και την Πολίν γεμάτη ενέργεια.

"Καλημέέέέρα" είπε η Πολίν με τραγουδιστή φωνή.

"Θεε μου, έτσι είναι πάντα;" ρώτησε η Νόρα την Τζένιφερ καθώς αγκάλιαζε την Πολίν.

Η Τζένιφερ χασμουρήθηκε.

"Ναι" της απάντησε.

Η Νόρα γέλασε.

"ΟΚ, ελάτε μέσα."

Και οι δύο την ακολούθησαν.

"Μμμ πρωινό!" Είπε η Πολίν χτυπώντας τα χέρια της και καθίσανε στο τραπέζι. 

Η Τζένιφερ κοίταξε την Νόρα και της είπε συγνώμη ψυθιριστα.  Η Νόρα της χαμογέλασε.  Μην στεναχωριέσαι της απάντησε στον ίδιο τόνο.

Καθίσανε και ξεκίνησαν να τρώνε.

"Οκ, πες τα μας όλα." Είπε η Πολίν καθώς μασούσε ένα  κομμάτι ψωμί με βούτυρο και μαρμελάδα πορτοκάλι πάνω. 

"Πω πω αυτό είναι πεντανόστιμο!"

"Δεν έχω να πω κάτι."Είπε η Νόρα χαμογελώντας.

Και οι δύο σταμάτησαν να τρώνε και κοίταξαν την Νορα καχύποπτα.

"Έλα τώρα, είπε η Πολίν. Φυσικά κι έχεις κάτι να πεις.  Ο Μαρκ Γουάιτ σε πρόσεξε. Αυτό είναι απίστευτο."

Η Νόρα χαμογέλασε.

"Νόμιζα πως ήταν γυναίκας, άρα προσέχει κάθε γυναίκα. "

"Του αρέσει να φλερτάρει, αυτό είναι το μόνο σίγουρο. Αλλά σου ζήτησε να χορέψετε και η κοπέλα του ήταν εκεί."

"Έχει κοπέλα;" ρώτησε η Νόρα έκπληκτη.

"Δεν το 'ξερες;" την ρώτησε η Τζένιφερ και δάγκωσε το χωνάκι της.

"Όχι, δεν είχα ιδέα."

"Ναι, είναι μαζί με την Άννα Σάιμονς. Χόρευε μαζί της πριν χορέψει μαζί σου."

"Δεν την θυμάμαι."

"Είναι πολύ όμορφη και καλή. Έχω μιλήσει μαζί της."

"Μάλιστα" είπε η Νόρα κοιτώντας το πάτωμα.

Η Τζένιφερ άγγιξε το χέρι της Νόρας. 

"Είσαι καλά;"

"Ναι, απλά δεν..."

"Περίμενες να έχει κοπέλα, σωστά; Και τώρα στεναχωρεθηκες." Την διέκοψε η Τζένιφερ.

Η Νόρα αναστέναξε.  Δεν μπορείτε να φανταστείτε πόσο σκεφτηκε.

"Προφανώς μου αρέσει και δεν ξέρω αλλά εχθές υπήρχε κάτι ανάμεσα μας."

"Το ξέρω." Ειπε η Πολίν.

Η Νόρα την κοίταξε καχύποπτα.

"Τί εννοείς;"

"Εννοώ ότι σας είδα. Όλοι σας είδαμε. Στοιχηματίζω ότι και η Άννα σας είδε. Γι'αυτό κ μόλις έφυγες πήγε και τον αγκάλιασε."

Η Νόρα ένιωσε ένα τσίμπημα στην καρδιά της. Έμεινε σιωπηλή.

"Λοιπόν, θα μας πεις τι έχετε συζητήσει;"

"Τίποτα το ιδιαίτερο. Μου συστήθηκε, μου είπε ότι είμαι όμορφη..."

Ο καφές βγήκε από το στόμα της Πολίν.

"Αλλά τίποτα δεν έγινε." Είπε αλλάζοντας την φωνή της προσποιούμενη ότι είναι η Νόρα. "Πλάκα μας κάνεις;"

Η Νόρα χαμογέλασε.

"Πρόσεχε με τον καφέ, της είπε. Απλά μου έκανε ένα κομπλιμέντο. Όπως είπατε έχει κοπέλα."

Η Πολίν και η Τζένιφερ κοιταχτήκανε.

"Μάλλον έχεις δίκιο." Είπε η Τζένιφερ.

"Το γεγονός είναι ότι χορέψατε και σου 'κάνε ένα κομπλιμέντο. Να είσαι χαρούμενη." Είπε η Πολίν και κοίταξε την Νόρα με ονειροπόλο βλέμμα.

Η Τζένιφερ σηκώθηκε.

"Οκ κορίτσια,  θα ήθελα να μείνω παραπάνω, αλλά πρέπει να πάω στους γονείς μου."

"Μπορείς να με αφήσεις και μένα στο σπίτι μου; Είμαι στο δρόμο σου." Την ρώτησε η Πολίν.

"Φυσικά" είπε η Τζένιφερ. 

"Αντίο Νόρα. Σε ευχαριστούμε για σήμερα. Θα τα πούμε την Δευτέρα στο γραφείο."

Η Νόρα χαμογέλασε.

"Γεια σας, προσεκτικά στο δρόμο." Είπε κι έκλεισε την πόρτα.

Πήγε στην κουζίνα και πήρε το κινητό της. 10 νέα μηνύματα. Χαμογέλασε. Παιδιά σκεφτηκε. Θα σας τα πω όλα τώρα.
