Gods among us-part XXXIV

 Mark called Phil.

“Mark, finally.” Phill said.

“I am in trouble.” Mark said immediately.

“What happened?” Phil asked.

“I told Anna the truth.”

“The whole truth?”

“Yes, I told her about us.”

“Maaaaaaark” Phil said disturbed shaking his head. “Why?”

“She was very sad and she didn’t believe that I wanted to break up with her without reason.”

“OK and you thought to give her the real reason? What were you thinking?”

“Don’t be upset with me brother. I need you now.”

Phill took a deep breath.

“Did she believe you now?”

“I don’t know. But she wants to meet you guys.”

“Of course she does.” Phil said upset. “Mark it's not going to happen. I don't agree with it and I am sure that none of the rest will think that this is a good idea.”

“She is not letting go.”

“Are you sure that she is not one of our relatives?”

“I hope not. If yes, then I made the biggest mistake of this lifetime.”

Phil sighed and stayed quiet.

“You think you guys can make it?” Mark asked impatiently.

Phil sighed.

“She just want to meet us or she would like to see the real us?”

“She wants to see the real us” Mark said by lowering his voice.

“Damn it Mark. Do you remember what happened last time that a human saw us? The real us?”

Mark closed his eyes. Oh he remembers this day very well…. Centuries ago, he was visiting his parents and his mother walked in whilst he was gaining his power. She could see the glow surrounding him. She screamed by fear and died immediately. “Heart attack” the doctors had said but he knew…He knew the truth and he could still hear her scream clearly in his head.

“I understand.” He finally said. “Let me see if I can get us out of it.”

“And I will speak with the rest.” Phil said and hung up the phone.

“What happened?” Nora asked.

Phil noticed that she was standing behind him. He was staring at her.

“Phil? What did Mark say?” She asked again impatiently.

Phil took a deep breath and touched her shoulder.

“Come, let’s go to the others. They are waiting.”

Nora was looking at him suspicious. This can’t be good she thought and followed him in the living room.

 

At Anna's place.

 

Mark entered the living room and found Anna staring at him. Her eyes were red from crying.

She stayed quiet but her eyes said everything.

Mark took a deep breath.

“It’s not easy, I told you.”

Anna raised her shoulders.

“I don't care” she said tired.

Mark was looking at her. It was the first time that he noticed a grey hair among her long blond hair.

“What are you looking at?” She asked him.

“Nothing.” Mark said. “I don't think they could come.”

 

Back at Nora’s place.

 

Phil walked in the room and Nora followed him puzzled. Mary was the first to notice them.

“What's going on?” She asked.

Everyone looked at Phil.

“Anna wants to meet us.”

Amy looked at him.

“But we are not going, are we?” She asked.

“Of course not!” Alex said.

“Actually, Mark said that he would try to get us there.”

“You got to be joking.” Kevin said frustrated and his eyes started to glow.

“Easy” Tony said to Kevin and touched his shoulder. “I am sure that dad has a good reason.”

“Ahm, he doesn't really.” Phil said. “He just said that she kept asking and he'd try to get out of it but we may be prepared.”

“I don't understand” Sarah said. “She wants to meet us, so what?”

“She wants to meet the real us.” Phil said.

“What?” Nora yelled. “Mark told her the truth?”

Everyone was looking at Phil.

Phil sat in the armchair.

“Yes he did.”

“Is he crazy? Has he forgotten what happened last time that a human saw the

real him?”

“I don't think he forgot” Phil commented. “I just think that he could not get away with it.”

“So what are we going to do?” Mary asked.

Phil looked at everyone.

“We'll go.” Nora said suddenly.

Everyone turned on her surprised.

“What are you talking about?” Phil asked her.

Nora took a deep breath before she continued.

“We'll go” she said calmly. “We'll try to make her understand and hopefully we won't have to show the real us in frond of her.”

“I don't think it's a good idea mom.” Alex said.

“I agree with my brother.” Kevin said.

“I think it might work.” Mary said thinking.

“Do you think you can do it?” Nora asked.

“It’s something that I've been working on the last centuries. Like a protection bubble. Maybe

I can get her in one of those bubbles and we can show ourselves.”

Nora looked at her.

“Basically it will be a thin wall and she will be able to see us, the real us.” Mary explained a bit more.

Phil was thinking.

“I still don't think it's a good idea.”

“I agree.” Kevin said. “It's a crazy idea.”

“Maybe Mark can show himself and only him.” Alex said.

Everyone looked at him

“I don't think he'd like that.” James said.

“He brought us in this position he has to get us out. And basically Anna wants to see him in order to believe him.” Alex said.

“Mary you're coming with me. We're going at Anna’s place.” Phil said.

“What about Nora?” Mary asked

Nora looked at her.

“No, I don't think is a good idea for me to be there. Anna probably would think that there is another woman in his life and she might let her anger on me.”

Phil nodded.

“Yes, it's a bit dangerous for Nora to be there. Mary, are you ready?”

“Yes.” Mary said.

“And you can to this trick with the wall, bubble?”

Mary looked at him.

“I can try.”

“OK.” Phil said. “Let's go.”
