Gods among us-part XXXV
Nora was looking through the window, whilst Phil and Mary went in the car and left the house.
“Mom?” Alex said.
She didn’t move at
all.
“Give her a moment.”
Amy told him and touched his shoulder. “She has a lot to handle.”
Alex was looking at Nora.
“I know but I don’t
like seeing her like that.”
“On every life time.”
Amy said.
Alex finally took his
eyes away from Nora.
“Unfortunately.” He
said and went to find Tony and Sarah.
At Anna’s place.
Mark had just hang up the phone and went back in the living room.
Anna was sitting in
the dinning table playing with her bracelet. Gold with charms on it from every
trip that she went with Mark. How stupid am I she thought by touching
the little gold bear from her bracelet. This one, was from their trip to
Prague, in Czech Republic few years ago. She can still remember the Prague’s
Castle and the Charles Bridge.
Mark took a sit across
her.
“What are you
thinking?” He asked.
She lifted her eyes
and looked at him, tired from all the crying.
“Nothing.” She said
with a lower voice. She could barely speak.
“Anna…” Mark started.
“Hush. I don’t want to
hear anything. I will go to sleep. Once I’m up, I want you gone.” She said
determined.
“OK, he said, but my
brother and my adoptive sister are on their way.”
Anna looked at him.
“Are they also….Gods?”
He nodded.
“And will I get to see
you? The real you?”
“We will try. Mary
said that she is working on something so maybe it will work for you as well. But
Anna , I have to warn you that this is not easy and you might got blind in the
best scenario.”
“I don’t care.” She
said
“You still don’t
believe me.” Mark said.
“No” She said and
shook her head.
They heard a car
parking outside.
Anna didn’t make a
move.
“They are here.” Mark
said.
“So I heard.” Anna
said.
The door bell rung and
Mark opened the door.
Phil was angry, Mark
could see this clearly and Mary was a bit shy. Goddess of love, always shy
he thought.
“You made it.” Mark
said and hugged Mary.
“Where is Anna?” Phil
asked without greeting him.
“Inside. Come in.”
They entered and saw
Anna sitting in the dinning table, holding her head with both hands. Mary felt
immediately her broken heart. Poor lady she thought and gave Mark an aggressive look. She moved closer to Anna.
“Hi.” She said. “Can I
sit?”
Anna took her hands
from her head and looked at Mary. Oh my god Mary thought once she saw
Anna’s eyes.
She stayed quiet. Mary
took a sit next to her.
“Look…” she started
but Anna interrupted her.
“I don’t want to hear.”
Anna said. “I just want to see him. The way that he thinks he really is.”
Mary took a deep
breath.
“You will, I will try
to help you do that, but you need to understand a few things.”
“Who are you supposed
to be?”
“I’m Mary.” She said
“No, I mean I suppose
you are a goddess right?” Anna said ironically.
“I am.” Mary answered
patiently.
“What kind of a
goddess are you? Mark claims to be the “King of Gods!" Anna said still with the
irony in her voice.
Mary looked at Mark.
He was looking at Mary and he nodded.
“I am the goddess of
love, Aphrodite. You may have heard me with my Latin name, the name that the
Romans gave me, Venus.”
Anna laughed hysterically.
“You've got to be joking!”
She yelled at Mary and stood up frustrated. She turned on Mark.
“Take her away from
me.”
“She is trying to help
you, she is the only one at the moment that can do that.” Mark said
“I don’t want her help!”
Anna yelled and left the room.
They were looking at
each other.
“I will bring her
downstairs” Mark said.
“NO” Mary yelled. “Don’t.
She needs time. Let me handle this.”
“OK.” Mark said and
turned to Phil.
“I would have never
thought that it would be that difficult this time.”
Phil touched Mark’s
shoulder.
“Patience. Mary is good.
She will handle this.”
Mark nodded and looked at Mary whilst she was still sitting in the chair thinking.
