Gods among us-part XLIII

 Nora left the meeting room leaving Mark alone. I really messed up this time he thought and took a look on his phone. He texted the others the latest news and put his phone back in his pocket. I need to figure out who came to earth. Can it be Anna? Nooo it can’t be it just can’t. Then who? Niko? Hmmm he thought. I need to figure out a way to see if its him. He turned and headed to the door. He opened it and run into Niko.

“Oh Mark. You scared the hell out of me” Niko said laughing.

“Sorry about that” Mark answered smiling.

“What were you doing in there?”

“Nothing, just wanted to be alone for a while”

“Is everything ok?”

“Yes. There is nothing to be worried about”. Mark said, turned around and left.

Niko frowned. I don’t like this he thought.

 

Later the day, at Nora’s place, Nora was preparing dinner when her phone rung.

“Hi Mary” she said.

“Hey there, how are you guys doing?”

“Good, what about you?”

“We are all very worried.” Mary said.

“Yes, we are as well.”

“Who can it be Nora? And why make it public?”

“I can only think of two people and I assume they just want to show that they are not afraid of us, that’s why they made it public”.

“I guess we are thinking the same people right? Anna or Niko?”

“Yes” Nora said. “Even though Mark doesn’t agree.”

“Hmm” Mary said.

“We need to get ready as soon as possible” Nora said.

“I agree. Has Mark gained his power back?”

“I don’t know” Nora said. “It’s going faster for him to gain his powers but I don’t know how far he has come with it”

“OK” Mary said. “Lets get together on Saturday to plan our next move. And Nora? Be careful, do not trust anyone!”

“Don’t say this to me, say it to Mark. Trust is never my friend” Nora said smiling.

“I will. Bye Nora”

“Bye” said and hung up the phone.

“Who should tell me what?” Mark asked looking at Nora.

Nora turned around and looked at Mark starring at her.

“How long have you been standing there?” she asked.

“Long enough.” Mark said. “ I still don’t have my full power but I’m getting there”

Nora took a deep breath.

“OK” she said. “That’s good.”

“Yes” Mark said. “So, who should tell me what?”

“That was Mary, she said that we should not trust anyone”

Mark frowned.

“I think its Niko” he finally said.

Nora looked at him.

“How do you know?”

“Once you left the meeting room, 5 min later I left as well and I run into him. There was something in his eyes, in his attitude, the way he behaved…I don’t know how to explain.”

Nora was thinking.

“I admit, he’s the only one that makes sense”

Mark was not talking. Nora went closer to him and put her arms on his waist.

“Look, I know how difficult it is to realize that but we really need to be sure and we need to plan everything very carefully.”

Mark nodded.

“On Saturday, we’ll meet with the rest. I am sure we’ll come up with a good plan, I am positive” Nora said and kissed him.

“I’m sorry Nora. I really messed up this time” he murmured kissing her.

“Yes you did, but you wouldn’t be Zeus if you didn’t” she said smiling.

Marks phone rung at the same time. He left Nora from his arms and check his phone.

“It’s him, Niko” he said and answered.

“Hi”

“Hey there, how are you?” Niko asked.

“I’m fine what about you?”

“OK I guess. Where are you?”

Mark looked at Nora. Nora shook her head saying no.

“In a hotel” he answered.

“What? Why? Why you didn’t come to our place?”

“I just want to be alone” Mark said.

“Are you sure this is the reason?” Niko asked.

“Yes” Mark said sharped.

“OK” Niko said. “If you need anything let me know.”

“I will. Thank you Niko. How is Anna? I haven’t seen her today at work.”

“She is hanging in there. She still needs some time”

“I understand.” Mark said.

“Mark?”

“Yes?”

“Are you sure that everything is fine?”

“Yes” Mark said. “Why shouldn’t it be?”

“You are right” Niko said. “Have to run, will talk tomorrow. Bye.”

“Bye Niko” Mark said and hung up the phone. Nora was looking at him.

“It’s him! And he knows” she said. “He knows that you figure it out”

Mark did not said a word. He just kept staring at his phone.
