Gods among us-Part XLIV

 "JJ" Niko called her name entering their appartment but received no answer. Where is she? he thought. I think she is cheating on you old friend he heard his master's voice. He frawned. Shut up, she is not cheating he answered mentally. Are you sure? How would she feel to find out that you have a wife and children back home? the voice said. Niko became angry and threw a vase on the floor and broke in thousands pieces. If you dare on hurting them...he answered. What would you do? I have the power over you not the other way around. As long as you do as I say, they will be safe. the voice said cold. OK Niko answered and went to the kitchen.

Whilst he was waiting for the water to boil, he heard the frond door.

"JJ?" he said by getting out of the kitchen.

"Hey you're home!" she said.

"I just came as well"

"I see. How was your day? she asked and went to the kitchen.

"Was OK I guess. Anna was not in the office today."

"Yes, I know. I called her and she said that she was feeling weak and that she was going to stay home today. Poor Anna. I don't like seeing her like that!"

"Me neither but there is nothing we can do. I spoke with Mark by the way."

"You did? What did he say?"

"Well, we haven't spoken about his break up. I run into him in the hall way, he was coming out of a meeting room, and then I called him once I left the office. I wanted to see how he was doing."

"And?"

"Did you know that he is living in a hotel?

JJ looked at him.

"Really?" She said. 

"Yes" Niko answered. "I told him that he should have come to us but he said that he wanted to be alone."

"I think he just wanted to meet his new girlfriend.". JJ said. 

"Do you think that he has a new one already?"

"You don’t?" JJ asked surprised. 

"I don't know" Niko said looking at the floor.

JJ took his hands into hers.

"I'm sure that he is with this Nora girl. I saw the way he was looking at her at the restaurant. There was love in his eyes. He never looked Anna like that."

Niko stayed quite. 

"Anyway" JJ said. "Enough with Mark and his love life. Let's eat."

Niko nodded and took a sit in the table. 

At Nora's place, they were all together talking. 

"Guys, Amy said, we need to get serious. We know for sure that one person is already here. Do we know who it is? Is it our father? Is it Phoebe? Or Uranus?"

"The only thing that I can say with certainty it's that this person it's close to us." Nora said. 

"Someone that we know?" Mary asked.

Nora looked at Mark. 

"Nora believes that it's Niko. My best friend. "

Everyone looked at him.

"Nora?" Phil said. 

Nora nodded. 

"He's the only one from the company that could send the message."

"Does Niko know that you said the truth to Anna?" Amy asked.

Mark nodded.

"My god Mark!!!" Kevin said furious. 

"I know" Mark said with his head down.

Alex went close to him. He put his hand on his shoulder.

"Dad, what have you done?"

Mark looked at him.

"We can't change what happened, Nora said, but we can be prepared. I don't know if Niko understood that Mark is aware but we really need to come up with a plan."
